Duomo Square is Catania’s main square, it is only 2.5 km away.
In the centre of the square, there is the famous elephant fountain, built by the architect Giambattista Vaccarini in 1757, and several times remodelled, on the top of which the famous “Liotru” (elephant) was placed. This statue is the symbol of the city, maybe it was built in the Roman era .
